Earlier this year, there were a slew of Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV announcements. However, Samsung saved a few things for this summer. The company just debuted its latest UHD TV models, including an 85-incher that will ship later this month.
That 85-inch model is part of the flat-panel HU8550 Series. Besides the 3840x2160 resolution, this model comes packing a quad-core processor, voice interaction, Wide Color Enhancer Plus technology, Clear Motion Rate 1200 for smooth action, four HDMI inputs, and three USB ports. It also has UHD Dimming, a technology that actually scans the number of zones in the image and adjusts the brightness accordingly. That works in conjunction with the Precision Black feature, which dims the LEDs behind the darkest areas on the image. That promises a better contrast and darker black levels overall.
Of course, no new Samsung TV would be complete without Smart TV features. This model includes Samsung’s new Smart Hub option, which can organize all of your entertainment into five panels right on the home screen. Other web-based options include access to a ton of apps, as well as S Recommendation for discovering new content based on your preferences and what’s “hot” in the Samsung community.
Samsung plans to start selling the 85-incher later this month, with an MSRP of $9,999.99. The HU8550 Series is also currently available in 50- ($2,499.99), 55- ($2,999.99), 60- ($3,499.99), 65- ($3,999.99) and 75-inch ($5,999.99) screen sizes.
Samsung will also have new curved models under its HU7250 Series. That curve is designed to create a more immersive viewing experience, but this line will also include several of the features mentioned above. Besides the resolution, the UHD Dimming, the quad-core processor and the Smart TV platform with Smart Hub, these sets also have the Quad Screen Multi-Link feature, which allows viewers to multitask, transforming the one screen into four. Shipping sometime this August, the HU7250 Series will be available in 55- ($2,199.99) and 65-inch ($3,299.99) screen sizes.
And finally, Samsung will have a few additional flat UHD TV options under its HU6950 Series. This model has the UHD Dimming, the quad-core processor, Smart TV with the Smart Hub feature, web browsing and even the Quad Screen Multi-link feature. The 40- ($999.99), 50- ($1,499.99), and 55-inch ($1,999.99) sets will be available later this month, each with four HDMI inputs and three USB ports.
“As the UHD TV market leader, we’re seeing excellent category growth and adoption among consumers who are looking for the highest resolution and best-in-class picture quality Samsung UHD TVs offer,” said Joe Stinziano, executive VP of Samsung Electronics America. “We’re excited to introduce another super-sized model and two entirely new series to our UHD TV family. Whether it’s a flat or curved UHD TV, Samsung continues to provide consumers the broadest selection of UHD TVs for any home.”
These new sets will expand Samsung’s UHD offering to six series with screen sizes ranging from 40 to 110 inches. Each one of Samsung’s UHD TVs can support for HEVC, HDMI 2.0, MHL 3.0 and HDCP 2.2, as well as future-proofing via the Samsung UHD Evolution Kit.
The HU8550 is currently available in sizes ranging from 50 to 75 inches. An 85-inch model is coming soon.
