A lot of people think of compact devices when the word “digital” comes up. Most of them probably don’t associate anything compact when it comes to the amplifier category. Russound is hoping to change that with two new amplifiers, the D850 and the D1650.
Each of these new digital multichannel amps boasts reliable power and scalable zones. However, both also include Class D performance, which means less heat, less energy used, and a compact size that can squeeze into a variety of settings.
The D850 is a digital multichannel amplifier with auto sensing line inputs, bridged mono switching, independent zone triggering inputs and outputs, a bus audio input, individual left and right channel volume trim controls per zone, and individual turn-off time delays per zone.
Designed for up to eight channels arranged in stereo pairs, the D850 can handle up to four zones of distributed audio. Each of those channels is rated at 50 watts into 8 ohms (80 watts for 4 ohms), with an option for a mono position that can combine both channels in any zone into a mono input. That translates into 160 watts of power into an 8-ohm load!
For slightly larger setups, the D1650 has 16 channels arranged in stereo pairs for powering eight discrete zones/rooms. It also has the auto sensing inputs, independent zone triggering, a bus input, and multiple outputs per zone. Promising 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms (80 watts for 4 ohms), this model also has a bridged mono mode for 160 watts into an 8-ohm load.
Russound plans to show off both the D850 and the D1650 at next month’s CEDIA Expo. Each one is expected to ship sometime in Q4 2014, priced at $1,250 and $1,679, respectively.
