The Netflix Player by Roku, now playing HD

When it comes to Netflix’s Watch Instantly option, Roku was the first to bring it to your TV, and for only $99.

Now with the latest firmware v1.5 update, you’ll be able to get even more picky with your Netflix selections and stream the few hundred that are available in high-definition, too. Or as Roku says on its website, “Just released—Hundreds of Netflix HD selections—now available.”

That’s from the 12,000-plus streaming titles ready for your instant queue overall. From what we’ve read and heard, the experience is certainly not quite Blu-ray, but it does present a prettier picture than standard DVD. If you’ve tried Netflix HD movies, please let us know how the video fares by commenting below.

We’re glad to see Roku kicking things up to HD, as we’ve already seen TiVo, LG on Blu-ray, Samsung on Blu-ray, and the Xbox 360 provide the same.

With more devices being able to stream Netflix Watch Instantly in HD, the ball’s back in Netflix’s court now, so how ‘bout some more HD options? Thanks, Netflix!
