In case you had been wondering what happened to ReplayTV, we are happy to report that it’s alive (sort of) and well (kind of) and a newly acquired asset of DirecTV.

“Although we valued this asset and the business was profitable, the sale of ReplayTV to DirecTV makes the most sense for this business, its employees and us,” said D&M Chairman and CEO, Eric C. Evans. “We believe this transaction is a positive development for ReplayTV and this sale allows D&M to further direct our focus on building our brands and executing our growth and acquisition strategies.”

The company has changed hands a few times, according to Zatz Not Funny. They used to be a major TiVo competitor. However, these days they seem to be staying out of TiVo’s way, instead focusing on digital video recording for PC users.

It is unknown how much the satellite provider spent on the transaction, or what exactly they plan on doing with their new purchase.
