Remote Powered by Hand Instead of Battery
This eco-friendly remote promises a battery-free A/V experience.
August 08, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

If you’re like me, you never have the batteries you need. There’s always Cs and some random 9-volt. Remote batteries are like gold! Would you drive to the store or go the manual route? Now you won’t have to do either.

The Wind-Up Remote Control uses the power of your hand—or at least a winding dial. The dial is located below the buttons. Pocket-lint says about 30 turns will give you full charge, which could last one week.

Sure, it would be nice not to search for those batteries. It would be even nicer if the winding powered up a touchscreen. Hopefully some day; in the meantime, this little device could give you some eco-friendly cred. At the very least, it might provide that tiny bit of exercise serious couch potatoes need to sustain life.

The Wind-Up Remote works with a variety of brands—foreign brands. It appears that this unit is only available overseas for £19.99 ($38).
