Back in February 2012, we first reported that Redbox was interested in taking on Netflix. The company was planning to launch a streaming service, known as Redbox Instant by Verizon.

One year later, there’s still no service for the masses. It’s currently in beta on PCs, tablets and smartphones, as well as Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray players. The next addition to that lineup will be the Xbox 360.

Redbox just sent out an email saying that Redbox Instant would be coming to the game console “in the very near future.” Beta participants will be offered access first, via an app code. If you want in on that, you can put in a request on the Redbox Instant website.

A subscription to Redbox Instant by Verizon will include unlimited streaming and four one-night credits for releases at a Redbox kiosk. Two different packages will be offered. For $8 a month, you will get DVDs, with Blu-ray costing an extra buck. Redbox says that Xbox 360 users will also have the option to purchase titles through the app. [via Deadline]
