Snow and ice, plus sports, plus HD generally equals great television watching.
Exhibit A: The Pittsburgh Penguins-Buffalo Sabres game on New Year’s Day played outdoors while snow fell in Buffalo. Exhibit B: The Seattle Seahawks-Green Bay Packers playoff game in which snow blanketed the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field as the game progressed.
Easily two of the top high-definition sports spectacles of a young 2008. So along the same lines, thanks Engadget HD, for the reminder that ESPN will begin showing the Winter X Games 12 starting tonight at 9 and running through the weekend in high definition.
I was fortunate to freeze my butt off and cover the event several years back when it was held in Vermont, and my jaw dropped at many of the events, especially the crazy snowboarders. And not only them, but the guys who follow them on snowboards holding the ESPN cameras, which will be ESPN HD cameras this year at the event in Aspen, CO.
Yep, they’ll be catching every aerial stunt and pulse-pounding race in high-def like it’s in our living room. Just turn up your heat a notch if your living room starts to feel chilly.
