Q. My son pushed in the metal dome of my tweeter speaker. Does this have an affect on the sound? Can it be pulled out? -Bill
A. Yes, it will most certainly have an affect on the sound – a negative one. The best thing to do is replace the tweeter with a new one. If the damaged tweeter doesn’t work at all, replace it with the same type of tweeter. Chances are you can order a replacement directly from the speaker manufacturer. If the tweeter was a soft type (silk) you could try pulling out the crushed area with some tape but metal tweeters don’t usually respond well to this repair method. The tweeter will usually separate from the rest of the speaker before the dent pops out, so replacement is probably your best bet. And, because budget is never an issue (insert snicker here), I’d replace both of them at the same time to make certain that they are somewhat well matched from a materials and efficiency standpoint.

Agreed. In most cases, once the dome is compromised the sound will be affected in a negative way - even after a “DIY” attempt to fix it. Replacement is the way to go - and good call on getting both done at the same time - better for even sound. http://www.hometheaterfocus.com/speakers/
