Q. Can you recommend some low cost, super good in-ceiling speakers? - Anonymous

A. Low cost AND super good? These two things don’t usually go together, especially when discussing speakers. Also, there are literally hundreds of different speaker manufacturers out there. I would try to find a good, custom brand of speaker as opposed to whatever happens to be on the shelf at my local electronics retailer. You can pretty much be assured that products designed and sold by custom installers are of a better overall quality that a product designed to be mass-marketed and sold to anyone and any price.

Some names you could look at (in no particular order): RBH Sound, Destination Audio, SpeakerCraft, Paradigm, Definitive Technology, Energy, Elan, Jamo, Klipsch, NHT, PSB.

I would call several custom installation firms in your area and ask them what they use. You can use the “Dealer Locator” service at CEDIA.org. This is the web site for the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association.
