We see a lot of Kickstarter campaigns. Some are great ideas that never get funded, while others are bad ideas that never get funded. And some get funded only to never be heard from again. However, PS Audio is using the crowdfunding website to create buzz (and funding) for its latest component—and it’s certainly working so far.
The campaign is for the Sprout, an all-in-one integrated amplifier that made its debut at the Munich High End show back in May. Designed to be the hub of a home music system, the Sprout has a 50-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier, a phono preamplifier, a 24/96 asynchronous DAC, a headphone amp and a Bluetooth receiver. That basically means that it can work with any digital input, as well as turntables and even stream music wirelessly from your smartphone.
“We’re excited to be able to bring the experience of great sound to a new generation,” said Paul McGowan, founder and CEO of PS Audio. “The really cool thing about Sprout is that it plays music the way people listen today—from their phones, from turntables, from their computers—and it does it simply. Gamers and movie-viewers will have a more-immersive experience, too. Sprout is a great product, and we’re proud to put the PS Audio name on it.”
Within an hour of the Kickstarter campaign launching, the Sprout had passed its $36,000 goal. At last peek, it was well over the $100K mark. If you want to secure the Sprout before the campaign ends, you’ll need to pledge a minimum of $499 within the next 36 days. (Sorry, the $399 version is all gone, but this is still $300 cheaper than the expected MSRP.) Once the campaign is over on July 16, 2014, PS Audio plans to start shipping the Sprout sometime in Q3 2014.
