Sony’s PlayStation3 just updated its Blu-ray drive
The PlayStation 3 product developers listen to their gamers.
The latest update details posted earlier this week on the PlayStation.Blog is that Firmware Update v2.10 is now live, featuring enhanced Blu-ray capability.
Among the introductions with v2.10 are taking the product’s Blu-ray drive up to Profile 1.1, which means picture-in-picture support and “other enhancements” as they proliferate on the newest Blu-ray disc releases.
There’s also “a much-requested video playback format” according to the PS3 people from what they’ve heard, which is support for DivX and VC-1 (WMV) videos to become playable in the Video section of the XMB.
Also, a voice changer feature is in there too, which will let gamers change the tone of their voice during voice or video chat. So now when you’re winning or losing, you can really let the boasts or expletive bombs fly.

Hopefully that’ll shut the HD-DVD tools up for a while. I’m so sick of hearing how Blu-ray doesn’t have PiP; a feature I had on my 1992 Sony TV and haven’t missed a all since I sold it in 1997.
DiVX support is also very nice. Can’t wait to get home and update my Firmware. According to HD-DVD fans, I won’t be able to because no blu-ray players have Ethernet ports on them…whatever.
Oh wait, I’m not supposed to be using this thing for movies am I? I’m supposedly an early adopter or hardcore gamer or something.
