Well, I guess I can’t call Microsoft liars. As promised, the new Windows Home Server will feature an available home automation application, by way of an Embedded Automation Add-In. The Add-In will be based on EA’s Home Edition of their “mControl” v2, a home control software for accessing and controlling a home’s integrated subsystems via TV and remote, the Internet, touchscreens, and voice command.

The mControl Add-In for Windows Home Server extends the reach of a home’s mControl-able systems and devices by making them accessible to any system connected to the Windows Home Server, as well as networked PCs and remote connections. It’s basically uniting the capabilities of both applications, which bodes well for sales of Windows Home Server-ready products (like the HP MediaSmart Server) to homes looking for a media center, server, and home automation control platform.

Still, variety is the spice of life, so I’d hate to think that the mControl Add-In will be the only home control application for the Windows Home Server.
