Unobtrusive was the top priority of this Santa Monica couple when they ordered a discrete home theater system for their second-floor great room. Terrence Mulholland, owner of Beyond Home Theater, was glad to fix them up with a modest 7.1-channel home theater that all but disappears when not in use.
Mulholland had to employ a few specialized touches for the job, including a Chief SL-236 projector lift, one of the few with the extension required to drop the projector beneath the beams without taking up too much space. He positioned two of the front-channel speakers on either side of the screen and mounted the center channel above, angled down at 45 degrees.
An AMX control system operates the hidden electronics, pulling blackout shades, dropping the DLP projector and lowering the motorized screen at the touch of a button.
