Project Takeover Turns into a Winner
This clean-up installation transformed an existing home into a tech-heavy haven with 15 TVs, distributed audio, security and other integration.

We’re not sure what was more challenging on this project—that it was a retrofit large-scale install or that the custom electronics pro had to clean up after someone else’s mess to get it perfect for the homeowners?

Judging from the result, it appears as though Frisco, Texas-based Automation Integration managed to overcome both aspects and live up to its name by not only installing tons of A/V, but integrating other important systems and interfaces to help the homeowners manage their daily lives better.

“For this project we had a homeowner who was coming from an existing home with a limited number of standard TVs with no system integration, HD, or whole house audio,” says Automation Integration’s Eric Becker. “We delivered him a complete easy-to-use system that incorporated 15 high-def flat screens including an outdoor unit on his patio, as well as a projector for his media room. We also provided audio throughout the home and property as well as the security system, cameras, and gate control.”

The TVs include mostly Sharp and Samsung unites, with a Pantel weatherproof model also installed. A JVC RS20 projector provides the high-def viewing in the media room, beamed onto a Draper Onyx screen.

All of the TVs in the main areas can access five satellite boxes as well as the surveillance cameras throughout the property, according to Becker. A combination of RTI remote controls, including the company’s U2 weatherproof remote, and touchscreens and keypads within a NetStreams Digilinx system allows for simplified command of all of the integrated electronics.

Audio distributed throughout the residence comes predominantly through several iPort docks for individual room use, along with a global iPod dock, and AM/FM radio can also be accessed within the integration.

“We did not start this project, but rather took it over and were faced with a bad design and poorly laid-out system. We had to adapt on the fly in order to give the homeowners a system that would work the way they wanted,” says Becker, whose company has shown us other handiwork taking over from previous pros’ jobs. “The system ended up so easy to operate that before we could even give a walk through they were up and using it.”
