No speaker should stand alone. That’s why Proficient Audio just announced the GS10 subwoofer.
This 10-inch floor-standing sub is designed to complement the company’s newly announced GL6 loudspeaker. Featuring a long-excursion, treated paper cone woofer coupled with a 250-watt Class D amplifier, Proficient says it has a frequency response of 28Hz to 200 Hz.
That woofer cone is made from a blend of paper-pulp and a mixture of strengthening materials. The voice-coil is high-temperature fiberglass and SV wire, which promises durability and better power handling. A large-radius surround controls excursion demands and voice-coil alignment that should also minimize distortion.
The GS10 sub also has a phase switch, as well as left and right line level and LFE inputs.
“With its elegant 7 layer black gloss finish, one might be tempted to dismiss its performance, but don’t,” says Keith Marshall, Proficient’s president. “There is power and agility hiding under all that gloss.”
Proficient expects the GS10 subwoofer for start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2011, for $900. If you want to make it a full set, the Proficient Signature System packs in two GS10 subs and two GL6 loudspeakers for $3,300.
