Proficient Rocks 70-Volt Outdoor Speaker
The AW8070V makes it easier to get loud in large yards.
July 22, 2008 | by Rachel Cericola

Big yards require big sound. Proficient is answering that call, with the AW8070V.

Designed to work with 70-volt audio systems, this baby allows homeowners to use one amp to power a party full of speakers. Worried about long cables? As long as everything is tucked away from wandering feet, there’s no problem; Proficient says the AW8070V allows for long runs and “daisy-chained” units, without having to worry about sound quality.

“The AW8070V is a more economical way to go when you need really big coverage,” said Keith Marshall, Proficient’s president. “It lets you run speaker cables practically as long as you want, attach as many speakers as you need, and power the whole system with a single 70-volt amplifier, so it eliminates most of the problems of using conventional audio gear in large backyards and estates.”

The AW8070V packs two 1.25-inch pivoting tweeters and an 8-inch polypropylene-cone woofer into a weather-resistant ABS cabinet. A transformer tap switch allows your installer to adjust the speaker level; four settings (8, 16, 32, and 64 watts) are available, along with a 4-ohm bypass setting. Rated to handle up to 90 watts, the unit also includes a frequency response of 70Hz to 20kHz.

Available in black or white, the AW8070V is available now for $435 each.
