OEM'd by Funai and packaged by Magnavox, the NB500MG9 BD Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player is being spotted on Wal-Mart's shelves for $298.

Ah, there’s always good old Wal-Mart to bring us happy Blu-ray news. The latest appears to be that Funai-made Blu-ray players making their way onto retail shelves include the Magnavox NB500MG9 and its sub-$300 price tag.

OK, so it’s $298 and will be over $300 in states that have sales tax, but we’re still glad to see the player, as pointed out on the Blu-ray Forum.

It’s a BD Profile 1.1 player, supporting 1080p/24 and 1080p/60 video output, bitstream HD audio output, and HDMI 1.3. We’d expect to see some review on the Blu-ray Form hit the thread soon, so check back there if you’re looking into purchasing the unit.

The same post says we should expect to see the Insignia-branded Funai player at Best Buy sometime soon, which we’d expect to be bottom-priced at the mega-retailer along the lines of other Insignia products there.

A Funai OEM’d Sylvania Blu-ray player (with similar model number NB500SL9) is on Amazon.com’s virtual shelves for $350.
