VIZIO Starts Shipping XVT Series Cinemawide 21:9 HDTVs
The company’s 58-incher is the first ultra-widescreen HDTV available in the U.S.
After much waiting and drooling, VIZIO has announced the availability of its highly anticipated XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D. That “highly anticipated” part isn’t just some marketing speak, either; people have actually been waiting for this day.
That’s because the XVT Series is the first 21:9 ultra-widescreen TV available in the United States. This new format will allow movie fans to enjoy content without those distracting black bars at the top and bottom of the picture.
Besides the 2560 x 1080p screen, the XVT Series offers up plenty of other goodies. Featuring a full 1080p image, the XVT Series also has Edge Lit Razor LED technology, Smart Dimming features and SRS StudioSound HD audio.
This set also falls under VIZIO’s Theater 3D line, which means it includes passive 3D technology. VIZIO wants viewers to experience that perk out of the box, including four pairs of battery-free 3D glasses with each Cinemawide 3D HDTV purchase.
VIZIO’s XVT Series also offers thousands of movies, TV shows, music and more, via access to VIZIO Internet Apps. That’s pretty nifty with the Cinemawide screen, since it offers the option for a full 16:9 picture on one side of the screen, while surfing for news, email and social networking on the other.
Other features include built-in WiFi and a Bluetooth universal remote control with full keyboard.
“As the first to bring a 21:9 aspect ratio, ultra-wide screen 3D HDTV of its kind to the U.S. market, we’re proud to be giving consumers the opportunity to view movies the way they were meant to be enjoyed,” said Matt McRae, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. “Not only does the Cinemawide HDTV eliminate the black bars, it also allows movie and tech enthusiasts to get the most out of their HD and 3D experiences with excellent picture quality and VIZIO Internet Apps.”
VIZIO is now shipping the first XVT model, a 58-incher known as the XVT3D580CM (MSRP: $2,799). For now, it’s a VIZIO.com exclusive, with an introductory price of $2,499.
