VIZIO Launches New Co-Star LT Streamer
The new box has built-in Wi-Fi, a web browser and app support.
It looks like a lot of companies are starting to bail on Google TV. VIZIO is getting a head start, by releasing a new version of its Co-Star streaming media player. The Co-Star LT is now shipping.
Oh sure, you can still snatch up some of that Google goodness and get the original Co-Star for $99.99. However, the new LT box is actually $20 cheaper. It also manages to turn any TV into a smart TV—assuming that TV has an empty HDMI port.
Instead, the Co-Star LT relies on the VIZIO Internet Apps Plus platform to deliver all of its entertainment. That provides instant, on-screen access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, iHeartRadio, Hulu Plus, and much more. It also has HTML 5 support for accessing the web and a slew of apps.
Designed to support up to 1080p and 3D content, the Co-Star LT has an HDMI input and an HDMI output, so users can browse apps while watching live TV. Other features include a new user interface, a USB port, built-in Wi-Fi, and the option for second-screen interactivity via a smartphone or tablet.
“The latest generation of VIZIO Internet Apps Plus represents years of forward-looking development and design. Delivering more power through a new full-screen mode and enhanced multi-screen viewing features, the platform offers an incredibly intuitive and seamless entertainment experience,” said Matt McRae, VIZIO’s chief technology officer. “The Co-Star LT stream player’s unique ability to integrate live TV and streaming apps, offers standard HDTV owners a simple upgrade option. One of the most advanced smart TV experiences on the market, the new VIZIO Internet Apps Plus platform also gives users access to the added convenience of second-screen interactivity.”
VIZIO is selling the Co-Star LT now, with an MSRP of $79.99.
