Vizio’s VBR100 Blu-ray player release has been delayed

After making its debut at CES, it looks like Vizio's $200 VBR100 Blu-ray player won't hit the market until at least this August.

We were pretty jazzed by the sneak peek of the Vizio VBR100 Blu-ray player back at CES in January.

It’s high on technology and low on price, following in the company’s flat-panel TV tradition. Only now, it appears, we’ll have to wait until at least August before we can get our hands, and eyes, on the VBR100, reports Engadget HD.

The player had been expected to hit shelves in April, and now that April has come and gone without any Blu-ray showers from Vizio, it led to questioning as to what’s going on. The answer from Vizio PR was that it’ll be about a four-month wait period.

Too bad. The player itself is right around that $200 Blu-ray mark that we like (it’s $199—hey, maybe after the prolonged wait Vizio will lower it, right?), with support for lossless audio Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, as well as 7.1-channel analog outputs and 108MHz/11-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

In the meantime, if you’ve got another few hundred bucks you can put toward your Blu-ray player you can always grab the Oppo BDP-83 universal player this month, or maybe one of the new Pioneer Blu-ray players arriving this spring.
