Views Around Every Corner in This Basement
FINALIST: Best Family/Media Room
TVs at the bar and billiards areas, plus a big dedicated projection screen makes this refinished basement a great destination.
Not all basements are made-to-order when it comes to finishing them. Some have odd shapes or nooks or low ceilings or columns to work around.
These homeowners had had other projects taken care of by custom installation company Premier Home Theater. The basement was left until later, since they knew it wasn’t going to be such a straightforward deal.
“When we were first brought in to speak to them about their basement finish, the homeowner had some very basic ideas but was not sure what to do due to the very tricky nature of their basement,” says Premier’s Robert Kowalski. “There were some issues in certain areas with ceiling height and also some lally columns that were in the way.”
The best way to solve issues for a basement-turned-home-theater? To not only design, construct and outfit a media room, but to do the rest of the basement. Probably wasn’t tough to twist the homeowner’s arm, as the finishing would include a bar, billiards area, play area, gym, bathroom and lighting plan.
A Crestron control system and TPMC8X touchscreen controller allow full command of all the systems in the new basement, including watching multiple games going on at the same time on the big 100-inch screen. And if viewing the superb high-def images from the Runco projector aren’t enough, there are two more viewing options in flat-panel form by the bar and billiards areas right in the vicinity of the theater, plus more in the gym and play area.
The theater rocks out with Triad speakers in a 7.2 surround configuration, while a couple of pairs of Sonance in-ceiling speaker provide further audio to the basement. Gaming consoles, Vudu on-demand movie service and Integra Blu-ray player provide some of the plentiful viewing options.
“We were able to overcome all the problems with the space and provide the homeowners with what they wanted: a great place to spend with the family watching movies, gaming, and watching their favorite football team, the Cowboys,” says Kowalski. The screens might not be as large as those in his new stadium, but we’re sure even Jerry Jones would approve of this decked-out basement.
