Ding-dong, the old-school doorbell sound is dead. Now, you can opt to play everything from Mozart to Metallica when someone comes to the house, via the Tommyknocker USB digital doorbell.

The Tommyknocker is a patented doorbell that uses your MP3 files instead of the typical bells and tones. The patented part is that most similar products need a microphone or other analog means to get the sound to the doorbell. This uses a simple USB thumb drive.

It ships with a pre-loaded USB stick with built-in sound. However, you can use tones or other MP3 files that you have stored on your computer. As long as it fits on the stick, you can use it to welcome (or scare off) guests. No cables, jacks or other connectors are needed.

Although you probably won’t rock out next the doorway, the Tommyknocker promises no file degradation or loss of fidelity. Powered by a 10-watt amplifier, the device promises quality playback via a 4-inch speaker that’s adjustable to over 80dB.

Designed as a drop-in replacement to an existing doorbell, the Tommyknocker comes with a wiring harness and mounting plate.

The Tommyknocker is available now for $169.99.
