TiVo Debuts Trio of Roamio DVRs
The new lineup can deliver TV anywhere, with up to six tuners.
Sorry network executives, but TV watchers are becoming increasingly dependent on the DVR. One of the companies that’s embracing this is TiVo. Of course, that’s the company’s whole deal.
Now, they’ve unleashed something called the Roamio, a new line of DVR boxes that’s designed to be a “Roku, Apple TV, Slingbox, Google TV, your standard cable box—all rolled into one.”
The TiVo Roamio DVR Series includes three models. Depending on your needs, you can have anywhere from four to six TV tuners, with storage ranging from 75 to 450 hours of HD content. In other words, you never have to miss a show again—and can keep quite a few of your favorites, too.
According to TiVo, the Roamio also promises improved speed and performance, as well as integrated wireless and TiVo Stream functionality in certain models. TiVo is also planning to add out-of-home streaming very soon, so users can watch live and recorded TV anywhere, using an iPad or iPhone.
Other perks include TiVo’s “What to Watch Now” feature, guide filters, and support for the new HTML5 platform for better YouTube and Netflix streaming. TiVo has also improved its famous remote control, adding RF so you can put Roamio inside a cabinet or in another room.
The Roamio also has support for TiVo’s free mobile app for iOS and Android devices. This allows mobile users to add and remove recordings, manage a Season Pass or WishList, and more, all while on the go.
“Now, wherever you roam, your TiVo Roamio is there. In the next room, in the kitchen, in a hotel room across the world—connecting you right to your living room TV recordings, so you can get them immediately wherever you are,” said Tom Rogers, TiVo’s president and CEO. “This is quite simply the best TiVo we have ever made and is truly for people who love TV.”
TiVo has started selling the entire Roamio family online, via TiVo.com, Amazon and Best Buy’s website. It will arrive in stores in the coming weeks. The TiVo Roamio has an MSRP of $199.99, with the TiVo Roamio Plus selling for $399.99, and the TiVo Roamio Pro priced at $599.99. All three models require one year of monthly TiVo service or a product lifetime subscription, both of which are sold separately.
