Three New Onkyo Home Theater Receivers with Audyssey
Onkyo NR525 and NR626 receivers
Feature-packed on a budget
Onkyo is starting spring early with three shiny new receivers between $500 and $900, and for that money the company is including features like built-in Wi-Fi, THX, high-resolution decoding and more.
For the entry-level budget, the TX- NR525 ($499) is a 5.1 channel system with six HDMI inputs, Audyssey MultEQ speaker calibration and room correction, InstaPrevu technology, 4K video pass-through, and Hybrid Standby (which maintains HDMI and network connectivity).
The step-up ($599) TX-NR626 includes built in Wi-Fi, FLAC support, and Bluetooth. It offers music streaming from a variety of services such as TuneIn Radio and Spotify. For future format compatibility the receiver includes Qdeo 4K video upscaling technology via HDMI. Audyssey MultiEQ audio room calibration is also included. Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry is present on the front and center channels. The TX-NR626 is suited to playing multi-channel movie soundtracks and two-channel music with a high degree of transparency.
The top of the series, the ($899) TX-NR727 carries THX Select2 Plus certification. It’s a 7.2 channels receiver with Audyssy DSX upmixing and a Whole House Mode for sending music to three zones. Eight HDMI inputs include MHL support for 1080p video from smartphone and tablet, while two HDMI outputs are featured to connect a projector and TV display.
The new receivers are due in stores in April and May.
