This Week’s Blu-rays on a Mission to ‘The Moon’
Man on the Moon recounts the Apollo missions
A 'Man on the Moon' retrospective highlights this week's releases on Blu-ray.
We’ve seemed to reach a new low with this week’s crop of Blu-ray releases, but the highlight, on the other hand, is about man reaching new heights.
We had to turn to broadcast programming and news footage for this week’s standout, ‘Man on the Moon’ from Timeless Media Group, among a group of mediocrity that includes a “Deluxe Edition” version of ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,’ which was released last week. Seriously, a Deluxe Edition of that one ?
‘Man on the Moon’ is a 40th Anniversary retrospective of the Apollo missions, led of course by the Apollo 11 moon landing that happened 40 years ago this month. It run 270 minutes and features tons of news footage, with the recently passed Walter Cronkite leading us through every groundbreaking step of the way.
If that’s not quite what you’re looking for, the only word that might describe this week’s releases is “horror”—in that there isn’t much else to bat an eyelash at, though the lone film highlight is in the “horror” genre, 1984’s ‘Children of the Corn’ in all its eerieness. The Stephen King novel-turned-cult flick brings with it a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack and 1.85:1 aspect ratio. And somehow the studio didn’t manage to call it a “25th Anniversary Deluxe Special Edition” or the like. Maybe that’s coming later.
TV fans may be a little happier with the releases, but not much—you can get up to speed on the first season of ‘Lie to Me,’ or the eighth season (who knew?) of ‘Smallville’ this week.
