Time flies when you’re having fun ... and when you have less than two months to finish a home theater before the Super Bowl deadline.

The time part actually wasn’t expected to be too much of a problem in this house for custom electronics pro Audiovisual Concepts & Solutions (ACS) of Colts Neck, N.J. Well, time did play a part, but ACS’ Andy Caraballo was more concerned about working with the homeowner when it came to design, taste and decor.

“[The homeowners] wanted the theater done by Super Bowl Sunday. Not a problem ... until I learned that the homeowner was an interior designer,” he says. “Spending her days designing interiors for others, I quickly realized we weren’t going to see eye to eye on everything.”

Throughout the project, however, those concerns were put to rest, as the homeowners entrusted ACS to handle every phase of the job from start to finish, Caraballo says—including the fabric, carpeting, framing of the custom millwork and more.

The theater is complete with nine theater chairs manufactured by Acoustic Innovations; carpeting from Kane Carpet; woodwork is a dark walnut stain with plush fabric panels; and custom lighting controlled by a Lutron Grafik Eye system. The equipment closet has a hidden door that is virtually invisible, adding to the uniqueness of the theater’s design, notes Caraballo.

And it doesn’t hurt to have a high-performance SIM2 projector shining (peeking out from its ceiling enclosure) its great high-def images onto a Da-Lite screen, with surround sound of James Loudspeakers.

“After seeing the end result the homeowner knew that she had saved our ad from four years ago for a reason,” jokes Caraballo. And apparently the viewers were rooting for the Steelers on that Super Bowl Sunday, because he notes that their victory made the day an even bigger success.
