One of the most sought-after home technologies these days is streamed media access, whether it’s being able to tap into your computer-stored files or connecting to web-based audio and video files, on devices other than your computer.

A couple of new products from Sherwood bring these features to life, and more, in affordable fashion. In time for this week’s CES, the company has introduced its RD-7505N A/V receiver and iNet-2.0 Internet music player and iPod dock.

The nifty iNet-2.0 ($299) looks more like a digital photo frame, but it’s a full-featured digital media player. You’ve got the top-loaded docking station for your iPhone/iPod, to go with an Internet radio so you can summon worldwide radio stations with solid clarity. You can use Rhapsody and Napster streamed services as well, and it will support MP3, Windows Media, AAC+ and RealAudio files, with built-in stereo speakers and 10-watt-per-channel amplification. And there is the 8-inch digital photo frame, too, as well as alarm clock features.

If you’re going for a more full-throttle A/V receiver to hook into a home theater system, the RD-7505N ($499) will give you both high-res lossless Blu-ray audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoded for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, as well as streamed media.

The receiver employs Verismo’s VuNow Internet access to deliver web audio and video direct from sites like Hulu, YouTube, ShoutCast radio, CinemaNow and others, and it’s also UPNP and DLNA compliant to tap into your PC-stored media files on the home network. You can also play media from USB devices, with video up to 720p/60 resolution.

The RD-7505N is HDMI 1.4 capable, including the new 3D standards, Sherwood says, and you can stream media wired or wirelessly. There’s also Sherwood’s SNAP calibration and setup system to help you along the way to A/V bliss.
