Sharp’s ultrathin 52-inch LCD prototype.
Prototype products are always fun. We love those automobile prototypes that seem to put us closer to the 2015 envisioned in “Back to the Future Part II,” which also showed us that we’d be watching about 10 TV stations at once on a big video screen.
We’ve already got plenty of video screens, but now Sharp has showcased a prototype of an LCD that’s about as thin as a screen.
The company has showed off a 52-inch LCD that’s only 29 mm (1.14 inches) thick at its thickest point, while the display is just 20 mm (less than 1 inch!) in depth. With the slim build, it only weighs about 55 pounds.
The prototype features a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 and color reproduction of 150 percent of the NTSC color gamut, according to Sharp.
