Roku Adds NHL GameCenter LIVE to Lineup
The latest Roku partner will put its customers right in the middle of hockey action, with classic and out-of-market games, and more.
That little Roku box just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Of course, it’s not growing in size, but the company just keeps adding on content providers. Now, Roku announced plans to put NHL GameCenter LIVE into the lineup.
NHL GameCenter LIVE is a subscription service that offers live hockey games, classic hockey, and on-demand access to every NHL game 48 hours after broadcast. If you don’t have time to delve into every hockey game played over the past week, you can also check out condensed games and highlights. The service costs $20.99 per month, or you can pay $169 for the year.
Basically, it’s everything and anything a hockey fan could need. It’s not too shabby for those not too interested in the sport, either. Roku also streams content from Netflix, Picasa, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and more. To get those services, you’ll need one of Roku’s three set-top boxes. The Roku HD ($59.99) streams video in HD, up to 720p. It also features built-in wireless and Ethernet access. The Roku XD ($79.99) and XDS ($99.99) do 1080p HD over HDMI, with Wireless-N built in. The XDS adds in dual-band Wireless-N technology, component video output, optical audio output, and a USB port.
The NHL is the third sports league to partner up with Roku. Major League Baseball and the Ultimate Fighting Championship currently offer live and on-demand events and other streaming content.
“We are excited to add NHL GameCenter LIVE to our growing list of sports offerings on the Roku platform,” said Anthony Wood, Roku’s founder and CEO. “Sports is an important part of our content offerings, and Roku aims to bring sports fans the most expansive and best experience possible to stream games from the internet to their televisions.”
