Coinciding with the release of Toy Story 3, you can expect to start seeing some wee 3D glasses at the theater for children 8 and under.

As if the kiddos aren’t fidgety enough in movie theaters, they also have those super-sized specs to deal with for 3D. Well, at least for now.

RealD just announced plans to furnish theaters with extra-special kid-sized 3D glasses to fit those smaller heads. The new glasses will be available at theaters in the U.S. and Canada starting this weekend, which of course, is the big Toy Story 3 premiere. Hopefully theater owners will have a lot of those little glasses on hand.

The glasses are exactly the same as the ones currently in 3D theaters, except designed for children 8 and under.

“The little ones will be able to comfortably enjoy the great summer movies coming out in RealD 3D wearing glasses designed just for them,” said Joseph Peixoto, President of Worldwide Cinema at RealD. “Kid-sized RealD 3D glasses are made to the same high-quality standards as adult size RealD glasses with each individually packaged in sealed bags ensuring they are clean and fresh for every moviegoer.”

It’s interesting that they comment on the freshness of each pair of glasses. Earlier this week, Good Housekeeping came out with a report on the unsanitary conditions of 3D theater glasses—even when they come prepackaged. Bring your own black light, kids!
