Pioneer to Stop Making 42-Inch Plasmas

By March 2009, Pioneer will stop production on 42-inch plasma TVs.

In early 2009, the company will focus on 50-inchers and up.

Remember when the 42-inch plasma was considered to be “the big one?” Neither do we. Maybe that’s why Pioneer announced that it’s going to wipe them clean from their lineup.

Reuters says that the manufacturer will stop making 42-inch plasmas starting in March 2009. Instead, they will buy up those sizes from the likes of Panasonic or Hitachi to make up for losses in that area.

Apparently there are too many manufacturers offering 42-inchers for budget prices. Budget? Pioneer doesn’t want no stinkin’ budget products. They are all about the high end, as seen by its CES announcement of Kuro technology.

So after the March date, the plant that produces the smaller models will be up for sale (in case you’re interested). Also, the smallest Pioneer panel you will be able to find will be 50 inches. Sounds good to us.
