There’s no word on how much the recorder will cost, but Pioneer’s Elite BDP-94HD currently retails for $999.
Ready to pimp your home video setup—again? Pioneer has announced its plans for a Blu-ray recorder.
Before you get too excited about exposing those facial flaws in your home movie collection, Pioneer isn’t leaking details about the recorder yet. One thing we do know: Japan will get their mitts on it before anyone else.
Despite having the Pioneer name, Forbes says the device will be a joint effort with Sharp, who is already making Blu-ray recorders for the Japan market.
Japan will get the recorder in time for the holiday season, with a release to other markets shortly after.
It will be interesting to see if this will tie into Pioneer’s other recent announcement—that the company has developed a new, Blu-ray-like disc. Crave says that the new disc has 16 layers of storage, each holding 25GB—for a massive 400GB. Now that’s a compact disc!
