When people talk about Wi-Fi extenders, the conversation can get dull and dry quickly. No so when the topic of discussion is about NetGear’s new do-it-all product, the Universal Dual-Band WiFi Range Extender (WN3500RP). Here’s what this product can do: supports a, b, g and n. Yawn; uses FastLane technology to support the simultaneous extension of both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Yawn, again. It streams AirPlay from an iDevice to speakers or a stereo system. Now you’ve got my attention. Yes, this little plug-in device extends your home’s WiFi network and at the same time streams music. Oh, and it also supports DLNA for audio streaming from Android devices. One more cool feature: It lets you print things wirelessly from your laptop or smartphone. Just plug a printer into the Extender’s built-in USB port, and you’re good to go.

Back to its core capability of extending a Wi-Fi network. This product couldn’t be easier to set up. You just plug it in and push a button. LED indicators help you find the best location for it. And if there’s something it can’t reach wirelessly, it has a built-in Ethernet port to support a wired connection. All this for just $99! I want one.

Also super simple, practical and affordable is NetGear’s VueZone line of surveillance cameras. New to the portfolio this year is an outdoor model, that like it’s indoor predecessor is small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, is wireless and portable, records images and stores them in the cloud. Regular camera batteries power it, and last up to six months. Images can be viewed on any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch inside or outside the house, and you can receive an alert when the camera senses motion. The outdoor camera’s ability to see in the dark comes from a lamp that’s included which illuminates a specific area of coverage, like the front porch. The new outdoor camera retails for $129.99
