Netflix Working with Mystery Partners
Netflix recently announced that the company is working with additional partners for hardware solutions.
The online DVD rental company says it's working with "three additional partners" to put out hardware.
So we recently told you that Netflix was raising prices for Blu-ray rentals. If they needed a few bucks, maybe they could have hit up some of their friends; they have a lot of them lately.
A while ago, it was reported that the online DVD rental firm was working with LG on a streaming set-top box. Now in Monday’s conference call, CEO Reed Hastings also said that there are three other mystery partners out there.
“At this point, I can tell you we have LG plus three additional partners actively working on integrating our technology into their products,” Hastings said. “Three of the four partners are major companies which each sell millions of devices per year and will enable the Netflix functionality in some of those devices likely in Q4 of this year.”
Dave Zatz and a few others have speculated about who those partners might be: Microsoft, Toshiba, D-Link, Sony and/or TiVo. However, Hastings did hint that one of the companies was smaller, and would try to beat the others to the punch with a pre-Q4 release.
Whatever they decide/announce, I hope it’s got a better offering that what I can currently stream over Netflix.
