Everyone would love to have some type of superpowers. Forget flying, though. Having some type of Jedi mind trick over everyday devices would be a lot more useful. It’s also a lot more attainable.

A company named Thalmic Labs is planning to put some of that magic into consumers’ hands—literally. The company just announced the MYO, an armband that can sense electrical activity in the muscles and transform it into actual digital commands.

Just strap the MYO on your forearm. It doesn’t need a camera or other add-ons. Instead, it works wirelessly to interact with computers, mobile devices, and other electronics over a Bluetooth Low Energy connection.

“As a company, we’re interested in how we can use technology to enhance our abilities as humans—in short, giving us ‘superpowers,’” says Stephen Lake, co-founder and CEO of Thalmic Labs. “We’re excited to see how the MYO blurs the lines between us and digital technology.”

Thalmic Labs plans to launch the MYO API for developers. The company is taking pre-orders for the MYO hardware now, with plans to ship by the end of the year. The company says that only a limited number of devices will be available and we’re expecting those to go quickly, considering the $149 MSRP.
