Ever look at some of today’s new products and think you can do better? Microsoft wants to challenge you to step away from the computer and start thinking about how to build a better one.

The annual Next-Gen Design Competition is underway. Just submit your entry online. The company says they wish to encourage “the imagination and creativity of the industrial design (ID) community.” In other words, designs on cocktail napkins need not apply.

The theme is futuristic designs that “help people fuel their passion,” so I am anxious to see what craziness will come out of this competition. This is also the first year that Microsoft will look at software as part of the PC design.

The website says there are cash prizes involved, but those are yet to be determined. Winners will also get bragging rights via the competition’s website.

There are plenty of other rules and regulations. Submissions will be accepted until December 14 at 11:59 p.m. (EST)
