Linksys Packs AC Technology and SimpleTap into New WiFi Routers

The topic of routers can seem like a boring one. However, Linksys is hoping to energize the category with a pair of new Smart WiFi routers. The company is now shipping the Smart WiFi Router AC 1200, with the Smart WiFi Router AC 1600 coming later this month.
Both routers boast an easy setup through any web browser and Linksys SimpleTap, which allows users to scan a QR code or an NFC tag. Each one also promises super-fast WiFi speeds and lengthy coverage, as well as IPv6 support. Also, these Smart WiFi routers are compatible with Linksys Smart WiFi apps for access to your home network while on the go.
The AC 1200 promises 867Mbps on the 5GHz band and 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band. This router is really designed for smaller homes with three to five connected devices, such as a PC, smartphone or web-enabled HDTV.
For a larger location, the dual-band AC 1600 can handle five to seven connected devices. It also promises WiFi speeds up to 1300Mbps on the 5GHz band or 300Mbps on a 2.4GHz band.
Both routers have Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0 ports, as well as Linksys beamforming technology.
Both Smart WiFi routers can be installed via most tablets, smartphones or PC browsers. Just connect the router to your device of choice and follow the on-screen setup wizard. Users can also create an online account to access settings, connected devices and tools from anywhere using any device the web connection.
Linksys is shipping the AC 1200 now with an MSRP of $169.99. The AC 1600 will follow sometime later this month, with a price of $189.99.
