If you went solely by press coverage, you’d think that LG Electronics was the only company going to this year’s 2013 International CES. They’re the only company leaking announcements, so they are really cleaning up—in some cases, literally.

The company’s latest introduction is the LG Hom-Bot Square, a redesigned robotic vacuum. Part of the new look is that the unit is sort of square. It has some rounded edges, but should be able to fit a lot better into corner spaces than its competitors—unless most of your corners are roundish, that is.

However, the real hook on this ‘bot isn’t its shape or the fact that it makes for effortless cleaning. It’s that the LG Hom-Bot Square actually has a pair of Dual Eye 2.0 cameras to scan and map the room and plot out a cleaning plan. That little perk, along with the new Corner Master technology and ultrasonic/infrared sensors, boast the ultimate cleaning experience.

The Hom-Bot Square also has a little Turbo Mode, which isn’t designed for racing against other robots. Instead, it lets users manually adjust the cleaner to match their flooring. There’s also a Smart Turbo Mode to automatically change those settings.

Other features include a Learning Function, a larger capacity Easy-out Dust Bin, and the promise of a quiet operation. It also has Voice Guidance, so the Hom-Bot Square can squawk out over 90 voice alerts and updates on its cleaning progress.

“From the beginning, we jumped into this project with the realization that consumers’ rooms aren’t round, they’re rectangular,” said Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “In practically every house around the world, rooms have right-angle corners, so it made perfect sense to develop a vacuum that took this into account. The Hom-Bot Square makes cleaning the hard-to-reach places effortless.”

Right now, there’s no word on when LG will start selling the Hom-Bot Square in the U.S. Also, no pricing has been announced.
