LG Talks Up New Magic Remote Voice Controls
The redesigned remote control works with LG's Cinema 3D Smart TVs.
Got something to say to your TV? Talk to the remote.
Talking to the remote that comes with most HDTVs would seem a little strange. On LG’s Cinema 3D TV, it’s a good thing. That’s because that remote will actually respond.
LG just announced a brand-new Magic Remote for its passive 3D TV line. It’s not totally new, but LG says that this latest remote has a new design. That will include four control options: voice, gesture, point and wheel.
Of course, the voice features are probably the most appealing—at least to those with a plain, old remote. This new one supposedly has better language recognition capabilities, which should make using the remote “simple, natural, interactive and conversational.”
The real highlight is new Natural Language Recognition software, which allows commands to be more fluid. No shouting or awkward pauses are needed.
“LG is committed to providing innovative home entertainment solutions and the Magic Remote is a key pillar of the CINEMA 3D Smart TV user experience,” said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “Building on an already impressive feature set, the latest version boasts accurate lan-guage recognition and its gesture, wheel and point control options makes the Magic Remote stand out amongst its competition as a truly intuitive device.”
LG will ship two versions of the Magic Remote. One will come with LG’s premium CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, while the other ships with the company’s standard CINEMA 3D Smart TV models. The big difference is that premium remote has LED backlit buttons and a more compact design.
