HomeSeer Packs Automation into Compact HomeTroller Zee Controller
The $199.95 box will start shipping on October 1, 2013.
Home automation comes in all shapes and sizes—thank goodness. After all, not everyone has the space (or budget) for tons of equipment, no matter how cool those components may be. HomeSeer is packing a lot of control options into a compact package, known as the HomeTroller Zee. The upcoming home automation controller will make its debut at next week’s 2013 CEDIA Expo in Denver, CO.
The controller is a gateway for Z-Wave products, so you can control lighting, security or other devices around the home. Even better, it works in conjunction with iOS and Android smartphones, tablets and more.
Also, you don’t have to worry about sacrificing home space. The HomeTroller Zee is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Inside that compact package, there’s an energy-efficient 700MHz Linux platform, which has that Z-Wave support. Besides being able to control light switches, thermostats, door locks and sensors, the unit can send alerts, announcements and reminders via email, text message or by voice (text to speech). Homeowners can also use the HomeTroller Zee to monitor and control energy usage.
HomeSeer is planning to debut the HomeTroller Zee at next week’s CEDIA Expo. When the product starts shipping on October 1, 2013, it will have an MSRP of $199.95. The apps, however, are free to download.
