He Wants Tech, She Doesn’t

She didn't want to clutter their guesthouse with electronics, he did. They both got their way.

Isabella would prefer no TV at all in their new guesthouse. David wanted a plasma TV with a full-blown surround sound package. Enter Peter Beck, owner of Home Theater Experience, to settle the score.

It’s not an uncommon dilemma, but there is any easy solution. Beck suggested to hide the front speaker set behind a stretched fabric wall, and so a project was born.

The guesthouse was still under construction, making it easy to run a pipe from the new TV opening to a mechanical room in the basement below. Beck and his crew then installed a fan system to pull hot air away from the back of a Runco plasma.

With the help of Chris Underwood from Kinetics Noise Control, a stretch fabric system was implemented. All the open areas were filled with a sound-absorbing material, and then fabric was stretched into a track system supplied by Kinetics.
