Harman Kardon Puts Wireless Streaming into Circular Onyx Speaker
The new audio option has built-in Bluetooth, AirPlay, DLNA, and more.
Harman Kardon is putting smooth sounds into a round package. The Harman Kardon Onyx is a new circular speaker system that can rock out sound wirelessly from a variety of different devices.
The Onyx can connect to all of those audio options via built-in NFC, Bluetooth, AirPlay and DLNA. It also has a 3.5mm auxiliary jack, if you’d prefer to tether your device directly to the speaker. It can also connect (and charge) via the unit’s USB option.
Promising four channels of amplification, the Onyx can deliver a total of 60 watts RMS through its four matched speakers. Other features include two 3-inch woofers, two 0.75-inch tweeters, and Digital Signal Processing. It also has two aluminum passive radiators for bass.
The Harman Kardon Onyx is ready to travel and boasts up to 6 hours of playtime via a rechargeable battery. It’s also compatible with the free Harman Kardon Remote app for smartphones and tablets.
“Listeners today collect, store, and carry their music in so many different ways, using so many different devices,” said Michael Mauser, president of Harman Lifestyle. “We set out to provide people with a single great sound system that’s convenient to use and able to connect via Bluetooth, AirPlay for Apple iOS users, DLNA for others, and stereo AUX-in—and do it smoothly and cleanly, without sacrificing sound quality. And then we made it look great.”
Harman Kardon is currently selling the Onyx Wireless Speaker on the company’s website. It’s listed with an MSRP of $499.
