As soon as the warmer weather sets in, you’ll start to gravitate outside. However, we know how hard it is to leave that theater room behind. Thankfully, you can take that big picture with you, if you have a portable projector.
InFocus Corporation is one of the companies that’s making portable home theater easy and affordable. The newly announced IN1142 is the latest in the company’s LightPro line of ultra-portable, light-emitting diode (LED) projectors.
Measuring about the size of a paperback book, the IN1142 is built to travel — whether you’re traveling out of state or out to the yard. It weighs less than two pounds and is small enough to hold in one hand. However, it can crank out a WXGA (1280×800) widescreen image at 700 lumens and has a light source that’s been rated for up to 30,000 hours of use. That’s certainly not the same type of projector that you’d find in a home theater, but it will do when you’re outside and need something to gaze at besides the stars.
Other features include a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, an HDMI port with MHL 1.2 support, and teeny built-in speakers for when you’re on the go.
“LightPro LED projectors, including the IN1142, are really affordable because they last so long. There’s no lamp to replace and it uses less energy,” said product manager Benjamin Joy. “You can use it four hours a day, five days a week, for 50 weeks a year — and it’ll last you about 12 years.”
Despite the big picture, the entry-level IN1142 doesn’t have a big price. InFocus is selling it now, with an MSRP of $399.
