Generally the answer to the first question is yes (you’ll be glad during the next storm) and the second question is maybe. The latest solution from Furman makes it a more of a definitive no than maybe.

In addition, the M-8Lx has pull-out light tupes, with dimmer knob, for discreet rack illumination, and the step-up M-8Dx has the tubes and laboratory-grade front-panel digital volmeter to monitor the incoming voltage, Furman says.
Overall, the sereis provids higher joule rating, better AC noise filtration and more robust chassis than Furman’s existing Merit line. And you won’t have to worry about your wallet or your entertainment center going kaput.
