We’ve been hearing about several games that will be updated for 3D playback on Sony’s PlayStation 3, which is planned to receive a 3D firmware upgrade this summer. But without a firm release date, we haven’t been sure when we’d be picking up our 3D glasses along with our Dual Shock 3.

Fortunately, that’s about to change in short order.

According to Sony Japan, updates for Wipeout HD, Star Strike HD, and Pain will include upgrading to 3D playback on June 10. Wipeout HD and Star Strike will be free, but Pain will require a nominal fee (about $3 US) to add on the 3D goodness.

Sony Bravia 3D TV purchasers in Japan will also get to take advantage of a promo giving them the aforementioned 3D titles for free, along with a free 3D Demo of Motorstorm 2.

Given the information came solely from Sony Japan, we’re reluctant to get too excited. After all, we didn’t see any confirmation this applies to the U.S. market, but we suppose we’ll find out June 10.
