ESPN’s Ultimate Remote is now available for preorder on Amazon.
Just in time for Father’s Day, ESPN has decided to enter the consumer electronics market with the ultimate gift—ESPN’s The Ultimate Remote.
It’s no football phone, but the remote isn’t a piece of junk either. It can control a variety of components as well as “IP equipment.” The real hook, however, is the Wi-Fi access, which provides one-touch access to scores, fantasy info, TV listings, weather, email, and other web content.
“ESPN The Ultimate Remote is a great example of how ESPN continues to extend its brand into innovative products that serve sports fans everywhere,” said Steve Cipolla, VP and GM of ESPN’s Consumer Products.
It’s also a good example of how a brand name can jack up the price. ESPN’s Ultimate Remote will cost $300. It’s slick looking, but ESPN isn’t exactly varsity squad when it comes to consumer electronics. They could have sold a lot more at a $99 price point.
If there’s a rabid sports fan in your life that will accept no other remote, Amazon is taking preorders now.
