The show is about to start!

Tonight is the annual State Farm Home Run Derby. It’s quite an exciting display. However, for some of you, it will be even more exciting, since ESPN 3D plans to air the event live—in 3D.

According to the network, this is ESPN 3D’s very first fully-produced telecast. The broadcast will include plenty of crazy camera angles, not seen on the regular network.

The 3D edition will even have its own hosts: Dan Shulman will lead, with Aaron Boone and Nomar Garciaparra also sitting in. So at least you won’t have to hear Chris Berman’s “Back, back, back” call a zillion times.

The 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby airs tonight (July 12) at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on ESPN HD. If you don’t have the network, you can still catch the action on ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN International.

At last count, the scheduled participants included: Boston’s David Ortiz, Florida’s Hanley Ramirez, St. Louis’ Matt Holliday, Milwaukee’s Corey Hart (how many “Sunglasses at Night” references will Berman make?), Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera and Toronto’s Vernon Wells.
