It’s really sort of amazing that less than 10 years ago 500 lumen, 720p resolution projectors were selling for thousands of dollars. In about a month you’ll be able to buy Epon’s PowerLite 730HD projector for $649.

The 730HD is an entry-level, 720p high definition LCD projector that includes a speaker, so you can use it for impromptu movie nights or backyard theater, or hang it in your finished basement for budget media room system.

The 730HD puts out a blinding 3,000 lumens making it one of the company’s brightest projectors. Epson rates the contrast ratio at 12,000:1.

To make setup easy, the 730HD includes three color modes, automatic vertical adjustment and an easy-slide bar for horizontal adjustments plus a 1.2X optical zoom. Inputs include HDMI, USB, component and S-video.

It will be available in early September.
