Design Tip: ArtScreen Adds Beauty, Rids Glare
Vutec’s ArtScreen R-Series can extend, swivel and tilt your TV
Vutec's ArtScreen R-Series conceals your flat-panel TV through artwork, and the mount also swivels, tilts and extends so you never have to worry about glare.
Covering flat-panel TV with artwork is an effective way of sprucing up a set when it’s not being used. Many manufacturers offer motorized canvas designed to quietly roll over the display. Installed inside a slim housing that’s mounted at the top of a TV, the canvas can showcase art that complements the room design. When you’re ready to watch a movie or TV program, a press of a button engages the motor which lifts the canvas back into the housing.
Motorized artwork, like the ArtScreen from Vutec, solves one problem. But there’s another issue that demands attention, and that’s glare. Light from windows and lamps can cause create an awful glare on the surface of a wall-mounted TV. Tilting the TV slightly can eliminate the shine. Again, there are manufacturers that offer motorized arms that can adjust the viewing angle of the TV. Vutec, however, has combined both an motorized art screen and a TV mount into a product that handles both the decorative and viewing issues of a flat-panel TV.
At the touch of a button, the ArtScreen R-Series extends the display 12 inches from the wall, allowing the viewer to adjust the swivel left or right from 20 degrees to 28 degrees in either direction and tile it from anywhere between 25 degrees down to 7 degrees up. Two locations can be programmed into the system so that one touch of a button on a remote moves the TV to the precise glare-free location for day and night or user one and two.
The system is available for flat-panel displays between 40 and 65 inches. It comes with a universal remote control and can be integrated into many home automation systems. Prices range from $2,800 to $7,200, depending on the model.
