Still busy stuffing all those new electronics goodies under the tree? Do you really love your so-called “loved ones?”

If so, please don’t ever make them use a remote that’s included with a piece of consumer electronics. It’s just cruel.

If you want to keep your friends and family out of CE Gitmo, give them an Internet-programmable, activity-based remote like the Harmony 520, currently on sale for $39.99 from Tiger Direct. You can save another $5 by using Google Checkout.

This is about as basic and inexpensive as you can find for a Harmony remote. It still performs all of the core (i.e. totally awesome) features necessary for easy setup of advance activity control in any home theater environment.

The Harmony 520 can control up to 12 devices and the online guided setup allows you to distill the most used commands and power on/off cycles automatically into activities like “Watch DVD,” “Play PS3,” or “Harshly Interrogate.”

Harmony may be the perfect name, especially if you have a significant other who can’t operate your complicated AV setup because just powering it on takes four remotes and 10 button presses.

Spread holiday cheer with easy control of all of your AV devices.
